Heavy rain caused flash floods in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra, during the afternoon of 03 May, 2019.

According to Samosir Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the rain caused the Binanga river to burst its banks, flooding areas of Sitio-Tio District in Samosir Regency.

At least one person died and another was injured in the flooding. It is feared that more people could be missing and authorities have deployed search and rescue teams.

Four houses were destroyed or severely damaged along with material possessions. A bridge was severely damaged, cutting access to some communities in the area.

In addition, around 5 hectares of agricultural land and approximately 100 cattle were destroyed. BPBD also said that the flooding had caused damage to drinking water infrastructure.
