This webinar will be a live streaming of the Special Session organized by the ICFM at the XVIII World Water Congress of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA)
This special session will include a debate that will look at flooding from three different points of view. The debate aims at developing critical thinking that is essential for understanding and managing floods and their impacts. The plan is to involve the audience through the presentation of three reasoned arguments and give the audience a chance to question the evidence behind a particular conclusion or stance. The main objective of the debate is to start from separate disciplinary points and, through open argumentation, reach a common ground that will integrate three different points of view.
The proposed session will have an unconventional format for the congress session. It involves three people with experience and expertise in social, natural and engineering sciences. However, the main effort will be to expand the debate to the session audience and involve them in asking questions, criticizing positions and presenting their own. The expected outcome of the session will be an integrated opinion on how to build resilience to future flooding.
